Welded Seams

Hi folks,

Please don't flame me too much as this is a genuine question.. why can't the seams on these vans be welded shut? Is it because changing panels later would be rendered impossible?

My understanding is that the seams are too tight, so moisture gets in, but then sits in the gap. Is that right? Is it moisture mainly from the outside, or condensation from the inside, or both?

My van was resprayed (according to the colour change registration) in early 2007. It was a 2 pac paint job and I would say, based on the condition of the paint now, a pretty good one. But.. as seems inevitable, the seams are starting to come through.

I seem to recall that in the past people modified original Minis to 'de-seam' them.

Thanks,
Stu

Look at Minis that have been de-seamed, they have cracks in them within 2 years.

Ah, right. Is that due to flexing in the panels?

I'll just have to look into the other option - widening the gaps!
