strange zig unit heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp!!!!!!

eyup ducks,looks like i need somebodys help again,ive got a 1983 diesel holdsworth villa,the zig unit looks like nothing ive seen on the internet,its says"bowers motorhomes" and "saga" on it,i will try to put a pic on in a bit,but when i connected the 240 for the first time yesterday there was a fizz and a puff of smoke from behind the zig and it blew the sockets in me garage?? any ideas...regards

Well that's it, if the magic smoke got out you're knackered.
Did the smoke smell? What did it smell like? Did you find the bit where the smoke came from? Transformer? What is that Scotchblock conected to? Earth fault? Is that masking tape!?!?!?

just saw a puff of smoke and it blew the sockets in me garage,i now think that i may have had the 12v and 240v switches on at the same time....silly boy,expensive mistake............pending

first off try turning it all off! then connect the hook up, via an rcd plug adapter, this way you won't damage your sockets again! turn the switches one at a time, till one trips the rcd. if it just went bang and smoked i'd suggest a dead short like you say, possible because the 12v and 240v were on at the same time! if this is the case, the smoke probably came from the insulation on the coils of the transformer! if you're lucky it won't have melted too much and might be ok! good luck!

ive just got round to having another look at the electrics,ive tried the 12v and it seems to work fine,but as soon as i connected the 240v up and switched it on,it tripped me garage sockets,any ideas fellas???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Short. Dodgy wiring as in the pictures or as Disco said fault in the transformer.
You will at the very least have to start tracing all the wires on the 240v side and possibly disconecting things like the transformer. If your happy there are no abvious faults in the wiring then pull the transformer out of the circuit and try it again perhaps?
Obviously what you should do is hand over to a qualified spark with experience of camper installs to figure it out. Messing with your 240v AC isn't allowed anymore and being in a van rather than a house at best makes it a grey area!!
