'boot' light switch

Hi all,
Read a few posts after searching to put my mind at ease about adding extra lights to existing wiring, will probably go for some of those LED bulbs that in the same shape as the filament ones i've seen aswel.

So, I'm panelling out my van and have put up an extra light in the rear that links to the slider contact switch, will do the same for the cab, but am also thinking that one positioned in the boot and activated by opening the tailgate would be handy.
Any idea if some models had these rear contact switches as standard, and if so.... where?

If not, where's best? I figure that inside the 'gate seal would be best as it avoids the elements? - could cut out a section and position a switch into the support bar/panel at the top me thinks. Either way, i'm going to need to plumb the wiring ahead of putting the rest of the panels up after carpeting so headscratching time...

Any tips appreciated,
Cheers
Brent

a very few caravelles/maybe westies I don't know, were fitted with a tailgate switch, it was placed at the back of the triangular latching place on the back slope and there was a tang plate welded to the bottom of the door that actuated it, I haven't got one on mine so I can't show you - it used the standard door contact switch

I bought a square LED torch the other day and stuck it to the inside of the roof with tesa power strips ...does a great job. I do have to switch it on myself however

you could use a car alarm bonnet switch, they work in the same way as a door switch.

brilliant, thanks folks. I do have a standard door contact switch spare so I'll rustle something up and post a pic of my handywork when I'm done
Thanks

Hi all
I'm new here, but may be of help.
I saw on German "mobile" on line auto market: t3 with converted tail gate lock to a golf mk3 variant, system.
Such lock have incorporated light switch inside, and albeit it is not easy, it is by my opinion very nice conversion,
that also solves your problem.
Just my opinion.

Yep, there is a tang - put there after painting as it is self/anodised/galvanised or whatever coloured.
