"Dying Swan" Wiper!

Morning Guys

I had a bit of a nightmare yesterday when one of the windscreeen wipers stuttered, stuck... and then swung bonnetwards. I've done a quick search on here and found the thread about refreshing the splines etc. How do I get the wiper off to access all the bits I need to look at. I know it sounds stupid but I've never had to take them off before so have no clue! Also is this a job for someone like me as I need to have them working 100% properly in time for being back on the road to work on Monday at stupid o'clock in the ridiculous weather we're having at the moment!

Fairly simple to remove. Using a sharpe edged tool, prise the round plastic 'cap' off the wiper arm where it meets the motor spline to reveal the nut. You'll need a socket to remove nut/washer and 'jiggle' and gently pull the arm away (watch out for the springed hinge as it can bite). You say you've found the thread about cleaning the splines which I presume is this one viewtopic.php?f=37&t=75941&p=7544694&hilit=+wiper#p7544694

Cheers! Didn't realise it'd be that simple... Had visions of it being attached quite differently! As soon as I went outside and had a close look I found the little cover thing and felt a bit of a div! As it turns out once I accessed the nut it seemed a little loose so I figured before fannying around I'd just have a go at tightening it... and hey presto no wiggly wobbly wipers! Now my wiggly wobbly wing mirror is a different matter! Thought it'd just be a matter of tightening the nut on the ball joint but it won't tighten any more... I would be so bothered if they were the cheap ones but I got them from Brickwerks specifically to avoid the self adjustment when at speed! Any ideas other than a squirt of super glue?!!

try this...
1.take off the nuts.the spring.and the half round piece of metal.
2.give the tapered shaft a good emery clothing.
3.grease the shaft.and re assemble.

it has always worked for me....
