Dam.... this morning whilst checking the coolant levels in the header tank I managed to snap the pipe conector to the Darlek cap ...Question is that it uses little if any coolant from the top up tank, can I get away driving the van without this feed pipe connected... As it will take a couple of days to get a replacement...

Not really recommended as when the engine is hot it is normal for it to eject water through that pipe into the top up
tank and suck it back as the engine cools down.

However, if you set off, it will drive as normal, (might eject a teacup of water out of the cap when it gets fully hot = no worries) but when you stop and let it cool down, it will suck air back in instead of water. So, you could, when you have stopped at the end of your journey, wait till it is cool, (or wait till you are about to start up again I suppose ) and manually top up the left hand "expansion" tank. This would be a perfectly safe temporary solution

I drove around for months a while back with a bit of copper pipe areldited into a broken stub, (to connect the rubber top up pipe to) as a temp repair

Get your replacement cap from Brickwerks not JK

Ta John, ordered a new one from Brickwerks ,but with this weather it could be delayed. Off to the Duke meet on Saturday so would want it fitted by then.

Its a one way valve on the dalek cap. allows hot coolant to escape, new coolant sucks back in through bottom pipe from external filler. So long as you top up the external tank and be prepared for a bit of steam out the back when you stop (dripping on zorst) you should be OK, It will take quite a while for van to come up to temp as well in this weather. You can help keep temp of engine down by turning on heater blowers full blast (auxiliary cooling system!) And dont thrash it you'll be cool I'm pretty sure I have one knocking about somewhere if you stuck (Bolton)

Thanks for that, a new cap has been ordered from Brickwerks so should be here thurs/fri and as you say in this weather it will take a lot to get hot

Lets hope you can get there.according to the news,at the mo the A515 is shut so is the cat n fiddle..
