Long haul tomorrow in the snow - yuck

I have to travel to Basingstoke from Dunfermline in Scotland tomorrow. Would have taken the rep mobile but am worried about the white stuff so am taking the van. I just hope I have fixed the heating properly. Did Dunfermline to Blackpool last year in the snow and discovered the pipe to the passenger vent was missing so the heat ended up behind the dash. I also discovered that gum works really well to block up the very small hole that directed a stream of freezing air on my legs. I had the Webasto going and the heating on full and still had to put a blanket over my legs.
What do you think West coast down the M74 then M6 or East coast A1 then M1? Mr Google say M74/M6 but he doesn't take into account recent snow.

I'd stick with West coast, the A1 was none too clever yesterday beyond North Yorkshire. A mate gave up trying to get South from Edinburgh and turned round before she made it to Newcastle, and I'm guessing the A66 could be a pain too.
Good luck

You have a Syncro .... the route is obvious ..... its the one with the most snow .... earn money pulling Land Rovers out of ditches on the way ....

A1 is terrible after morpeth, i got caught there whilst doing cambridge to edinburgh last year. 18 hours it took me in a the westy hi-top ( not syncro ).
the bit at berwick is particulaly bad.

I came up the m6 and m74 this morning 3am To beat the big
snow, and it was ok except for the trucks thundering past on cruise
only vehicle up the a80 aswell, also must of experienced frozen
throttle or something as on shap and beattock moor the syncro became
sluggish. Thought it was the diesel freezing up

Well I left at 2pm this afternoon and made it a whole 20 miles (M80) before I met a 2 hour delay as a result of an accident (probably some knob in a 2wd with near bald tyres). First chance I got (after 2 hours in a Q) I headed back the way I came hoping to go the long way round (M90 south then M8) only to see signs for another accident on the M90. I thought this wasn't meant to be so I headed home. Thankfully the course I am booked on will move me to another date and the hotel aren't charging me for the late cancellation.
Conciliation prize is that it appears my heating is working ok

Not usually a problem. Been here 14 years and apart from last years fortnight of fun the snow has never lasted longer than a day or two.

I tried to fly up twice last year about this time to get my van fro Russel. In the end Ian trailered it down on the back of his T4 in a break in the weather.
