Changing the water

I need to change the water in the cooling system. Any hints or tips?
Where is the best place to disconnect and drain?
How much water is generally in there?
How do you get the air out once it's full?

I also seem to have a slow leak. Where is the most likely place for a leak. Sometimes when the heater is on you get a whiff of that hot water smell (don't know how else to describe it)

Thanks in advance

if you are getting a smell from the heater then it could be a small leak from the heater matrix. try and have a good look under the dash for any wetness also get the engine hot and leave for 15 mins or so then when you start up put the heaters on to the screen demist. does it steam up badly.??

if you want to do a pukker job then flushing the system might be an option. heater side disconnect both heater pipes and with the heater valve open stuff a hoze pipe in one end and let it run till its clear.

do the same with the main rad top and bottom hozes.
do the same with the engine

there`s a bleed screw on the top of the main rad, you need to remove the grill to get at it fill slowly from the rear and you may need to rev the bugger to get all the air out. i`ve always filled them slowly and never had a problem.

sure baxter has done a full right up somewhere. or maybe in wiki.

think theres something like 11 litres of coolant total in the system good quality antifreeze at 50% and you`ll be ok.

fresh antifreeze often causes small leaks to get worse.

Sounds like a sod of a job. Might take it to Syncronutz to do.

If it's a wbx use red antifreeze and distilled water !!! apparently it prevents water jacket/"head gasket" failure. If you take it to Syncronutz they will sort it
