While driving on petrol from work the engine cut out while I was in a cue of traffic - that didn't go down too well . The RAC did a few checks but couldn't get it running, he said there was a spark but no injector pulse.
I thought that was odd based on the fact it just stopped mid journey??? I assume the ECU is looking for a signal from another device before it pulses the injectors, if so, what other signals does the ECU need before it pulses the injectors?

on lpg it doesn't matter as the injectors are isolated by the lpg loom, so on lpg there is no pulse
ecu switches injectors to earth on petrol
ecu uses air temp. air flow, water temp and revs/load to determine fuelling, temp1 is in afm, temp 2 in tstat housing, afm and hall sender in disi
if it won't start on either are lights on gas switch, if no light then fuse blown and engine won't run on either

That's right, my hair is now blonde, still not found a good dentist tho!
Just got back in from the garage and checked all the aforementioned items and all looked good on the DVM. I took the ECU out of the syncro project and tried that, started first time.
So that's good news - found the source of the problem. However, the failure mode was a bit odd as I said, just stopped working while I was in traffic.
If I want to replace an ECU it's gonna cost a few quid (I suppose it goes with the territory). Can they be repaired/are they worth repairing/does anyone on here repair them???

Baxter knows of a company that does refurbs I think, otherwise try your local Bosch agent, auto one is still listed from VW £400+ exchange, but manual is nla

a quick google found this guy http://www.the-ecu-doctor.co.uk/ there's a pic of our ecu in his list

Aidan, is there any question you can't answer???

Alternatively, does anyone have a schematic of an ecu???
