Has anyone looked into this a guy I was talking to reckons it is possible to put unimog axles on a Syncro I see that seikel do them for the t5 altho prohibitively expensive 33k but with all ye engineers out there thought it might give you something to look at

ORC do these for the Mercedes G Wagen. I'd love a set for my 280GE but the price is huge.

just not comaptible with our transmission and I can't see how you could fit one at the back, either way the shell would have to be jacked up massively to fit them and then you'd lose the low centre of gravity which helps to make our vehicle safe.
You might as well buy a unimog and stick a T3 shell ontop; perhaps CJ will do that

Agree with that, tricky though as the unimog chassis has lots of twistability, lots..

Unimog axles wont fit a T3. Far to wide,to heavy, driven by torque tubes just to mention a few major problems.
The reason for portal axhles is to lift the diff higher. this applies to a rigid axle . On the syncro you dont have a rigid axle so your diff sits higher already.

There are various companies that make all sorts of portal kits to fit Toyota's ,landwogas etc but all very expensive.
If you are going that far then i would suggest buying a vehicle that has portal axles from the factory.

I take it youve never tried lifting/moving a Mog axle ?

I would imagine if more under axle/diff clearance is needed then modified/custom A arms/trailing arms with suitable Cv joints/drive shafts/ball joints/shell mods etc etc could be worth considering.

If you go down this route though you start looking at 'fit for purpose'. If you have unlimited pockets and you want to say youve done it , fair enough/ If its for 'driveability' etc there are alot more capable vehicles with alot more clearance for alot less money.

You could just look for an lt van if you really want to convert to portal axles. They look like a bulked up syncro anyways

Seen a set of c303 axles in malaysia for 3k if your still wanting!

I was thinkin that you could run an audi or subaru 4wd transmison and reverse the drive with a portal hub on each corner,so you get forwaqrd gears insted of reverse!
