Hi
In need of some advice
Just bought another camper it's an 83 air cooled Autohomes KAMPER hi top conversion it has a gas heater set in the floor like a little heat exchanger with a grill over it. It doesen't work at the mo the ignition button is broken & the knob won't turn the rest of the van is mint as the same guy had it from new but he obvoisly never used the heater or he broke it. My question is has anyone had any experience with this type of heater & if so is it any good? is it worth repairing or should I just take it out & foget about it. If it is worth repairing where can I get parts?
Cheers

Sounds like it's a propex or Carva type heater ask propex (heatsource) if they can repair it or at least have the bits.
dismantle what you can till you can see the burner
You ask is it any good?
I think the blown air heaters are better.. this would be silent when being used, so it is desirable.

Sounds like it might be a Carver heater? There's a photo of one in this thread:

Worth saving I reckon, if you can get it working.

It's neither of the above, it's a riviera. I had one in mine, it was knackered. It's in a thin metal box under the van, it has probably gone rusty.
Mine wouldn't work, when I investigated it full the thing just fell apart in my hand. Better to investigate it's condition before trying to ignite it.
I may still have the original manual, will have a dig around.

Thanks for your replies
Looking at the link & pics it is a riviera mine looks to be in pretty good nick although as you say it would be a good idea to get it checked out. The problem I do have is the knob is stuck & the ignighter is buggered will probably need replacing if I can find any parts these days.
A copy of the manual would be great my email is

Thanks again

Right
Been messing around with the heater, ignition working OK gas supply all good & as I said the unit is in good condition, it now seems as if the control knob is seized when the knob is pressed down it wont rotate as I think it should.
Anyone out there got a spare control valve & knob or know where I could get one as I haven't a clue where to start looking.
