Oil flow problems

After fitting a new head gasket mechanic and i started up my 1.6 td to warm up the engine for the next stage of the head bolts tightening procedure. Unfortunately when he took off the rocker cover to do so, he noticed that there seemed to be no oil going round the top of the engine. We tightened everything up but now we're a bit stumped as to why this is so. He thinks maybe the oil channels in the main engine block might have got some crap in them or perhaps the oil pump has failed. The head is definitely fine cos it was skimmed and pressure tested. The other possibility is that we got the wrong gasket because he noticed a couple of holes were covered by the gasket (but they could have been water channels), though i got it from jk for the correct year. Can someone please help?!

I'm sure I read somewhere that it is possible to fit the head gasket the wrong way around....I'm sure there will be someone along shortly to verify or otherwise this possibility.

Red westie is right,if you fit the gasket upside down the oil feed to the camshaft is blocked by the gasket!!

If the gasket is on correctly it will be as per this photo. https://club8090.co.uk/wiki/Pa ... protrusion
If it is upside down/back to front it's elsewhere!

I thought it was a problem if some of the gasket sticks out of the seal-that's why originally I thought that a previous one had been wrong because it was sticking out and when i poured water into the tank it all came out from that point.
