Headlight Change - Which Lights?

I have spent a bit of time looking at the Wiki to see if anyone had posted a thread regarding changing headlights as I am looking to fit some Smoked Crystal Lights to my bus; it may be my short-sightedness, however I failed miserably to find anything in this topic, hence my following post.
I have seen a number of Mk 1 and Mk 2 Golf lights for sale (fleabay) and was wondering if anyone has had some suggestions or experience in fitting crystal lights and can offer some suggestions on which Mk of Golf (or other vehicle for that matter) I should be looking at when sourcing some headlights.
Thanks in anticipation.

I was looking at some cross-hair units and have seen both Mk1 and Mk2 Golf units being offered. I do have some old originals which I could use to supply the tabs if necessary, but would rather try and find something that fits pretty much out of the box. I'll take a closer look at the Mk1 unit and give it a try.
Thanks for the info.

I toyed with doing mine for a while and found the easiest / best way round it was to unbond the front glass - took ages
and refit the ones I wanted - got to the last hurdle on the left one and cracked the bloody glass AAAArgH
Ended up buying a new standard unit from C&C dissapointed but new ones are very shiney

Firstly, thanks to Mr Moderator for putting me right regarding the correct home for this thread - there are just so many to choose from!
Fin,
I did initially think about just changing the lens however remembered that the beam is formed by the reflector with the crystal light units so couldn't put a crystal lens on a standard unit as the beam is formed by the front glass on the standard light unit. How did you overcome that challenge?
Additionally, how did you release the lenses and what did you use to re-bond to ensure that you got a 100% waterproof seal?

I hadn't thought of the beam pattern when I attempted to do mine.
Lucky I failed miserably at the last hurdle
The glass fell out of my old one - so getting the glass off that wasn't a problem
The donor unit I carefully cut around the sealing line with a very fine blade and soaked it in nitromors overnight to loosen the sealant.
I used silicone sealant to refit them, but as I pressed them together the whole thing cracked across the lens
So after 3 days of messing about and £25 worth of parts I gave up and bought a nice new standard one for £40 - its well shiney

Oh and don't use Nitromors on them if you want to reuse the reflector as it takes all of the silver off of the reflector surface.
If I had the chance to do it over again - I wouldn't bother
