Hi all, I have a problem with 1.6TD (JX) engine

I drive along and it just loses power, when i pull over it either idols roughly or stalls - on restart is will pull off fine and with gusto but the power will then go again (could be in about a mile or it can be fine for several miles and not happen again for a few days) - this is slowly getting worse and happening more frequent. I have drained the water out of the fuel filter but can't think what else it could be - runs fine one minute , hour day or two and then just loses power until the engine has restarted

Has anyone got any ideas before I give my christmas savings to the local garage?

do you think it could be bits in the tank that are blocking the strainer or water in the tank?

Just to finish this thread, it turned out to be the diesel filter - when it was cut open it was choked right up with crap. The tank has now been cleaned out and a new fuel filter and al is well =]
