Fuel Filter relocation 1.9 DG

Is it just me or do others find the location of the fuel filter under the van a bit of a pain?

One reason its not easy to take of without losing a canny bit of petrol, and hence maybe wont get changed as often as it should.

Was thinking of relocation to the engine bay where the hard pipe comes through the bulkhead, and renewing the undervan hose as one piece.
Any thoughts? Anyone else done it?

Probably best to keep a plastic filter full of petrol as far away from a hot engine as possible.
A pair of mole grips on the flexi between the filter & the fuel tank should stop any escaping petrol when changing the filter.

Agree with the plastic filter near engine, but was thinking about maybe putting in a metal one.

Use a brake hose clamp if you are that worried about losing petrol ... although tbh I always take the old one off with the new one in the other hand and plonk it straight in so minimal fuel loss

Even a metal filter is going to introduce at least two more potential fuel leaks into the engine bay because of the hoses each side. You could fit a ball valve between the filter & the tank to shut off the fuel when you change the filter and it would double as an anti theft device to limit the van's range to whatever petrol is in the carbs. :ok
