eber heating - constant clicking
Posted: 01 Nov 2010, 16:01
Hello everyone, hope am posting in the correct forum as the tech forum seems to have been split since last visit.
The family and I are currently in Iran on a trip to Australia. Whlist in Europe was very cold and were using the Eber heater. However it is not functioning correctly.
The van is a diesel, am not sure of the eber model
After being turned on, the fan starts and a clicking noise starts. This goes on for 10 seconds or so.
The fan then steps up a gear and the clicking noise will click faster if the heater is set to 7 and slower if set to 1.
Heat will then start to come out the heater and will eventually get very hot. But the clicking noise persists and the smell of diesel outside the van is quite strong.
One time when I started the heater with the van running, the clicking noise only clicked a couple of times. However, after an hour, the clicking noise came back.
I am assuming the clicking noise is the fuel being ignited. Is the constant clicking a sign of a serious problem and the heater shouldn't be used. Or can we just ignore it and let it run all night? (so far have always turned it off when going to sleep).
Thanks
ps, the diesel here is stupidly cheap, 50l for about 70p!
