Has anyone had any significant success with sound proofing their vans? I seem to get most of my noise from the nose and from the engine/exhaust. I have a VR6 in the back with a fruity exhaust which I love the sound of but it becomes tiresome on long journeys. The wind noise is at motorway speed. I have applied the second skin paint stuff and closed cell foam to other vehicles when restoring them so couldn't really get a before and after comparison. I have a decibel meter on my phone and it is around 90 decibels at speed.

To do it properly will be a massive job as I will have to remove the interior so only want to do it if will work.

You'll probably struggle. You can cut down sound a great deal but if the silencer box resonates. I think you'll always hear it. My bike can conversion resonates at 30mph but vanishes thereafter so I can live with that. Insulating with foil bubble wrap keeps the heat in and cuts down at least half of any external noise. Do the front first (easy) and it will encourage you to do it all I'm sure.

Would exhaust wrap help to quieten the exhaust a bit?

I can't see how it would. I have the pipes wrapped anyway and 2 silencers on it. I am going to put more soundproofing in and above the engine as well.
