Engine swap

Ive got a 1985 1.9 petrol T25 and it dont half drink the fuel so ive been toying with the idea of putting a deisel in it, looking into it though it sounds like a lot of work considering the extra bits i need to get to do it. Can anyone suggest my best option should i go for the deisel if so can someone do a list for dummys as to what ill need please? or do i go for an lpg conversion, if so how much should i be looking to pay? or is there a more economical petrol engine out there that would be easier to fit?

unless it's daily driver doing more than 6k miles a year leave it alone, spend the money on service items and keeping it running sweet and put petrol in it and go camping, enjoy : )

Only doing about 5k a year, Whats your thoughts on lpg?

I do 350 miles a week in mine as it's my daily. Looking at a 9 month payback on the install then I'm winning
Might be sooner the way petrol prices are climbing again but the gas is creeping up too
You've got a choice of install options: some will cost you power and mpg, some claim minimal losses for a lot of outlay, one claims to be better than all the rest and costs a lot less but is an uncommon choice... Do your homework and choose with care. Remember that you're shelling out £800- £1000 and need to get that back in fuel savings first.
I'd say - drive it more!

mines a daily driver 2.1MV on lpg but conversion was paid for many years ago before the lpg price went up by 30% and I can afford the space and power loss and the 200 mile range in exchange for 16ppm fuel cost, I wouldn't necessarily advocate anyone doing it, a grand buys a lot of petrol and you should get better than 20 on a run, some get closer to 30 in tin tops with light vans and light right foot; a fuel filter, an air filter, a set of plugs and disi cap and rotor arm and a couple of oil and filter changes a year and go camping

You could put in a second tank Aidan! Which I'm going to do...eventually. Like you I can get away with a range of ~160 miles but would like more to make the most of those cheaper fillups when I find them
Gypo - it is diy-able if you're a practical and meticulous type. Just ask toomanytoys...
