Auto gearbox - Nightmare finding parts, etc

Hi there good people....

Sorry....got more silly questions about this F*&king gearbox nightmare I'm having....

Recently acquired a new van with a 2.1i fitted with a dying auto gearbox.

Been having a right mare of a time finding someone to recondition the one I have or supply me with a new/reconditioned one....even a torque converter seems impossible to find!

If I get an autobox from a 1.9 or any other petrol van will it work as it should on my 2.1? i.e. will the gear ratio be different? If so, does anyone know who could change this?

Thanks and sorry for sounding like a newbie.....dont know squat about gearboxes :(

I have in the workshop a complete auto box from a 2.1 that was fire damaged, torque converter is still in place, gearlinkage also there, drove extremely well before fire, give me a ring if you are interested, customer wants a couple of hundred notes for it but open to discussion.

yes the 1.9 box has a lower ratio than the 2.1

will the gear ratio be different?

Thanks for that. Ended up buying one off ebay but its off a 1.9 DG.

What are the implications of using this gearbox on my 2.1 DJ? I'm guessing lower top end speed, maybe slightly quicker acceleration(?!)

Been driving it for a while since it started getting knackered so I'm not even going to try to just change the Torque converter. Just going to get old box off and stick the one off the DG I just bought in its place (if it fits!). Figured I must have done a fair bit of damage driving it this much. Started smoking big time from the torque converter on Monday and oil smells fried.

Steve, if the 1.9 DG box thing doenst work out and that 2.1 box is still for sale I'll come right over and take that off your hands. Wish I saw your post before I woke up at 5am this morning to drive to Cambridgeshire and pick up the 1.9 DG box before work today!

Feel like I'm way out of my league doing this so any input very much welcome...

David.
