I have to tackle a nasty dent some yobbos put on the side of the van.

The dent is on the side door and its about 3" diameter and quite deep (hit with a bottle). I've looked on the web at these dent pulling kits like 'ding king", are they any good or is it just a con?

I guess if it doesn't work I could try taking the door cards off and getting to it on the other side to knock it out but i thought id ask here first before i waste my money on one.

if its just pushed in.i would do your second suggestion.if the dent has creased/stretched the metal then a dent puller wont do the job.its a filler and sander job..

not nessesarly my girlfriends fiesta got dented by a vandal on the top corner of her wing i thought i might be able to pop it out from behind.
i did pop it out but it was creased so i suggested she try one of those dent removal places i heard they use various different prising bars to gently manipulatethe the inside of the dent until it's gone and no paint damage either.
well she went there i cant remember the cost but it was pretty cheap and i cant tell there was ever a dent there.
my girlfriend told me they used a sucker.
so my advise is give one of them places a look see what they can do it'll save you a lot of time money and elbow grease

how deep we talking ?? dent pullers are ok if no crease but if nasty use hammer and dolly if you don't have a hammer and dolly try a block of hard wood and hammer dent out and then skim it paint it etc

the fact that you have asked about um I would leave it to the pro's! I have used um to some good effect, but you need years of pratce to get um out with no sign of the original dent!

I put a 4" dent in the front corner of my syncro earlier this year and eventually got around to finding a dent guy. I was recommended a DentMaster franchise holder in Cornwall but as it was too far tried a local guy operating under his own brand of DentCure. It was a bit of chance but this guy had spend 20 years in a main dealer body shop before setting out on his own with the paintless dent repairing a few years back. He was magic, teasing the dent out from behind, (through the indicator hole) with his array of strange shaped tools. Took about 1.5 hours and he charged a flat rate of £55. He polished the last fine dings out by buffing the paint so only I can really see where it was. Well worth the money.

Things I learned from him:
He was scathing of the people who go on a 2 week course with no previous experience in body work, they rarely come good.
You need a decent layer of paint to get a good finish.
You obviously have to get at the back of the dent.

I would add that recommendation of a specific person is important or ask what the individual's personal experience is before committing.

my mate went on one of those 5 minute courses and set up as a dent master. he awsome at it but he is one of those clever buggers that can do anything.

I have got fist size dents out of motor bike tanks in the past by warming the dent with a hair dryer, when its nice and hot blast it with plumbers pipe freeze it works as long as its not creased.
