L shaped water coolant pipes for 1.9 petrol engines

Hmm, anyone bought a leaker?? Last week my mechanic fitted a new one for me only to discover that after carrying out the usual coolant change routine that it was leaking coolant from a tiny flaw in the weld around one of the outlets. Gutted! A replacement was quickly obtained and the situation is now sorted. Awkward as it is, it is possible to pressure test these pipes in the kitchen sink, i.e. fingers and thumbs over the holes and blowing hard through one of the inlet/outlets. Such a simple test would have saved me much time and bother in the first place. I can't say who supplied the pipe as it would be unfair given the fact that it's subject to an investigation, and reimbursement of my money for having the pipe replaced. Just a warning anyway if you about to buy a new water pipe. :ok

Have noticed that I'm losing coolant after having the system completely flushed and bled along with and various hoses and clips replaced. At first I thought it was oil, but under the sump there are various tear drops of pink coolant hanging and dripping. Any ideas? I've done the obvious checks like simply observing the engine bay (whilst running the engine) and looking for leaks around clips etc. Nothing obvious however...it's a mystery!

If it were a 2.1 clutching at straws I'd say look at the oil cooler 90 degree hoses, sadly (for you) Aidan will be right though, jacket seals

Time to assume the position ....

It's a 1.9 DG engine; any sealants out there that you can add to the system in an attempt to seal weeps, i.e. like rad weld??

Apparently people have had short-term results with K-seal or something like that .... AA card to standby :?

I k sealed mine 18 months ago still running
About 5 years ago VW rejected a batch of l shaped water pipes from the manufacturer as not for quality, and there was no source of them anywhere, I know as I needed one - not long after JK had them for sale - I bought a used genuine one from a good source though and that's still ok

I sealed mine with the Holts equivalent to K seal today, seems to holding out....so far anyway

Re the L water pipe, the first reject came from JK, the replacement they sent me doesn't leak, but the spouts/off-takes were welded on at slightly different angles and one was fouling the tin work in the bay, this was sorted with a pair of tin snips! Poor show really, how difficult can it be to get a simple part like this so adrift from the original spec?
