following on from Roger's little problem with his selector ball and linkage I've got in some bits for him to refurbish his linkage, so I now have in stock
front bush (and rear bush upto may87 build) £6.25, rear bush from may 1987 build, ie fitted with the rubber boots £4, universal joint, the nylon one in the middle of the linkage £5, and selector ball, the nylon bit only, remove old one and clean up your metal part and then fit new ball £8.50 for if your ball's skirt has burst under rust pressure and allowed your ball to move like Roger's had or your ball is worn due to grit in the cup and lack of boot or similar issues.
I have the boots in stock, both for the selector shaft and for the selector cup and ball
I've also bought in a brand new front linkage to get the profiles of the guide fork covers measured with a view to getting a repair kit made, cos a new shaft is over £90 for syncro - after the weekend's crap shift on my van it may get fitted to Edna though

going to have to get a web shop
Rob I'll give you a bell

Hi Aidan,

So what would the front repair set consist of ? I seem to have lots of wear in the side guide plates inside the box at the stick end...if that makes any sense at all

Any idea where I can get the rubber boots that go either side ofthe rear bearing on the shaft ?

Cheers, John

My balls are fine at the moment but could you get a pair and put them in a bag for me and give them to Dick next time he's coming ......

I didn't catch the start of this thread but it seems like a good place to put my question.

I have just refitted the gearbox to my DJ Syncro and am having a pig of a job getting the rear ball and socket linkage on the gear selector to to line up so that they stay together. As far as I can tell I am putting things back together as they cam apart unless I have missed something.

So, if the ball and socket are coming apart easily when not fixed, and popping apart when fixed in place when I try to select a gear, does this mean that they are worn out and need replacing or that something is out with the alignment?

Your thoughts would be welcome. Cheers.

cup and ball should easily mate, get the skirt of the boot pulled down to join them then fit the rear bush plate to the gearbox boss, push the whole shebang upwards as you nip up the two bolts, plate goes on front of boss
check the plastic bung in the bottom of the cup hasn't come out or that the ball hasn't slipped up it's shaft as Roger's had done

Thank you. That seems to have done the trick.
