Hi were off to France next week, Blois, in Loire area anyone any idea's on where to visit around there.

To do your trip justice I suggest that you buy a Michelin guide to the region. That will give you all sorts of options. Have an excellent time and bon voyage! I am jealous.

Hiya Tony, are you booked on a site ? If you're planning to do a bit of touring the France Passion book has a lot of vineyards in the area to stay on and sample the goods

We're booked in a hotel as we're taking the oldies( in 2 wheelchairs) with us. So pretty grounded that way.
Going over on the Le Harve ferry and having brekkie at Honfleur, thanks for recommending it last time we went.

Hoping to go to the Le Mans museum but pretty stuck for other ideas.

Hi Cath ... cross-dressing If you have a run down towards the coast there's some beautiful chateaux (sp ?) Durtal is a nice old town.

Hi Tony. Spent quite a lot of my youth in the area. Chinon is definately worth a visit - Jeanne d'Arc and all that as well as being a pretty town. Azay Le Rideau and and Rigny Usse also in same area and worth a visit. For total grandeur try Chambord. They are all within easy reach of each other. Doesn't sound like you are camping but if you were the municipal site at Chinon is great and cheap as chips. Have fun.

If you are crossing on the Havre ferry, then why not drive down the normandy coast, (pont de Tancarville), visiting chateaux, apple / cider degustations. Go via Arromanches WW2 museum of the 6th June 1944 landings. Carry on down and visit Mt St Michel, then cut to blois.

Go to Samur, taste (not) champagne........

Im jealous, were planning to go down to the Loire next summer, its one of the few areas of France we've not been to. Let us know how you go on.

Honfleur is beautiful and is a great place for a stop off. Enjoy

Been to the region many times. If your after some top vin rouge. Follow the main road south of the river from Chinon going west. Keep your eye out for a sign on the left called Chateau Petit Thouras. Will look deserted when you pull up the beautiful drive but there is always someone in. They are a small local producer. You can buy one bottle( although they probably won't be impressed or a case) from about €4 a bottle. I promise you its top notch. You can taste before you buy. Enjoy the trip, hope it all goes well.

Hello sorry to hear that ,lets hope the striking ends soon ,but you have to admire the power of the people..

OH Ian, it's worse than you think. With having th oldies with us we had to hire a minibus.

I agree Dandaz, i imagine that we might have similar stuff happening in Uk soon.
Just want to get home, we hate hotels and being so far inland

The plan for next year so far is:

Ferry Dover Calais (or similar) head south through the centre of France towards Milau and to Carcassone, head up to the big long beach area south of Bordeaux and then south and into the North of Spain - back home on the long haul from Santander (not my choice).
Should take about 4 weeks. Folks, let me know your ideas and see if we can join up for part of the journey/experience. A Wessie Failure/ splitters 2011 tour?
