unidentified instrument panel

Hi, I've unearthed an instrument panel that I had forgotten I'd bought about 7years ago. At the time I thought that a VW dash was standard across the range until that is, I joined this club. The speedo has the No 500 VDO on it, does this suit a 2.1 waterboxer 89/90? If not what vehicle would it suit? Rob

Mike, I couldn't post a pic on here if my life depended on it. When I send an e-mail it could come to you or even more likely Yasser Arafat. I foolishly thought that the number would identify the model type, yeah I know and I still believe in fairies at the bottom of the garden. Rob

805 is the number you need on the speedo.

is the cable a push fit? in mph? if yes then it should be 850

1600 being syncro.

is the electrical connector horizontal? if so should fit a late bus. if not it can be fitted but you need to move some wires in the connector!

Does it display speed in km/h?
I think it may be a non uk dash.
It will give the right speed just not in the right units.
The k value relates to the numer of turns per unit distance.
A km is near enough 5/8ths of a mile which is why km/h speedos have 500 value and mph speedos have a 805 value. 2wd vans are driven from the fns wheel so it doesn't matter (for the speedo) if it is powered by petrol or diesel or what gearbox is fitted.
Syncro sppedos are driven from the transmission, have a higher k value and are not interchangable with 2wd. Hope this makes sense.

Billy I will await your news regarding the dash we talked about with anticipation. Thanks again, Rob.

I think I'm following this thread correctly.
My speedo, kph, works perfectly but the odometer is no-op due a broken small plastic cog. If your panel is useless, would you like to sell me the speedo with it's little cog intact please?
Thanks, Richard

The Km/h instrument panel in my 1.6TD Westy is marked with a number "500".

Well I think I'm as confused about your threads as you appear to be about mine.
Put simply, I'm looking for a speedo. If you have one that is of no use to you, then I'd like to buy it.
