HELP Main beam warning light

I am trying to replace my main beam warning light. I have removed the instrument panel and removed the bulb but this is where the problem starts. The bulb looks more like an LED it is about 4mm in diameter with a chromed glass end and 2 wires coming of it just like an LED but the Haynes manual states that it is a bulb. I am having trouble locating one as I or anyone I ask have never seen a bulb like it. There is also a resistor in line which makes me think that it may not be 12v. I would be gratefull for any help on this I know its not important but its bugging me.Thanks in advance
My camper is a 1991 petrol 1.9

Hi Tomo, I've just checked my old dash unit (88 caravelle) & it's got a RED LED in it, & it worked fine right up to when I changed the dash for one with a rev counter. There is also a resistor in line rated at 100 ohm (brown/black/brown/gold). If you are not too bothered about the colour, you could try Maplins for a colour of your choice.

I got one earlier this year from our local VW agent. Quite cheap as I remember.
VW part no. is 321919061D for blue
straight forward change over but note that one leg of the bulb is marginally thicker when refitting.
