Have just fitted a 5 speed gearbox and and am considering fitting a rev counter. Does anyone know the maximum revs a 1.6 non turbo oil burner should run at? Ta Keith.

Compression ignition don't work much over 4500RPM and at 4500RPM the 1.6NA won't work very long (thankfully)

Are we knocking the 1.6 na again? Just don't knock mine, please, it knocks enough already.

One day I'll be able to afford a rubber band...

You might be ale to get a s/hand rubber band from one of the breakers, be sure to ask for a graph and a warranty.

Hamsters - you need to aim for a strong team of hamsters to power it for that boost to the searing performance of the 1.6NA power.

You could probably get about 25 russian hamsters in a drive belt but they tend to die after a couple of years... hence the not lasting very long...

In theory these IDI pre-chamber engines can go to 5500 or more, or so we read on diesel tuning forums. There are some differences between the NA and TD other than the turbo, and the JX style engine is obviously built for higher loads, and better piston cooling...

4500 is where the normal orange band ends and the red starts from memory, on the TDs.
The 1.9TDs in std form are governed to about 4200 rpm, but should go a fair bit higher than that safely.

If you've got the space, starting to assemble the bits to put a 1.9TD engine in would be a good idea. The AAZ is the best of these.

The TDi engines have a much narrower torque band for decent consumption, so don't take any notice of their revcounters.

I think the AAZ was the ONLY VW 1.9TD..... could be wrong, mind.

Also ABL found in t4's.

My AAZ goes to about 5300-5400rpm but has no power over 4800.
