Hi folks:
Both the bolts on my exhaust pipe to cylinder head have now snapped and i was wondering if there is a quick temporary fix until i can find someone to do the job.Is there a magic silicone or paste out there ?
The van is a 1.9 dg.
Thanks

Garage did mine with some wierd stud removing tool thingy.
Drilled a hole in to the stud and bashed some rod type thing in, then undid them.

The tool needed is a stud extracter, basically a pilot hole is drilled into the centre of the broken stud and a reverse thread extracter screwed in tight which then backs out the broken part. If you have part of the stud sticking out you may be able to weld a nut onto the broken stud and undo it as per normal......... . . both methods take a bit of practice before sucsess unless you're first time lucky

even if the stud is flush it might be worth getting the welder on it.just build it up till its proud then put a big nut over the weld and fill it in...the heat helps to free it too.if the weld snaps then just try again.this is if you can get to it with a welder of course

you want new bolts to hold the exhaust on?
Are they high tensile?
If not I got loads of new here... for free
or they are M8 X 30 from you local engineering supliers.
There are two studs that have to be studs as it's hard to get a bolt in due to the curve of the exhaust

I had a set of stainless steel exhaust studs, nuts and washers for my recent engine build from volksbolts. I can recommend them, delivered to France in around 4 days

Thanks everyone
I have managed to get one stainless bolt in but the other will have to stay sheared for now
What a pig of a job.
I had to slacken both pipes off from the silencer and they are slightly blowing for now but i can live with that for a while.
Thanks again
