Hi all,
I'm going to snowdon at the end of October, have figured out where to camp after checking here( priceless source of reference!!)
we want to climb snowdon along the 'easy' route, my youngest daughter is 7 and well used to walking.
Has anyone done it? What's it like?
Going there for 3 or 4 days, any suggestions for other places to visit in the area?

Great site.
Its my favourite in North Wales.
Its not much of a walk to the Watkins path from the site and you can have fires.
It closes at the end of October though so I would check dates with them.

Did it many years ago - both via Crib Goch and via the Pig Track (Pig Track was the easiest route, as I recall, whereas Crib Goch was more or less straight up). Plenty to see and do in the area. Llandudno is nice for a mosey along; Anglesey has beautiful beaches; Beaumaris Castle, Conwy Castle and Canarfon Castle all worth a visit; Slate mines (llechwyth (sp) Caverns); Port Meirion; Betws y Coed.

Note* we camped in the only place that you can get NEXT to the lake....eveywhere else has wooden stakes preventing you from getting close.

It's one of those secret places you want to keep for yourself.
It's not anywhere as nice if you have to park with everyone else....

the easiest path is the Llanberis path that basically follows the train track up, it's longer and quite exposed on that side so it could be quite cold, infact it could be very cold.....also it's not the most visually interesting from what I read. I carried our 3yr old on my back up the miners/pyg track and it is not the easiest in places. Not sure i'd take a child up Snowdon at the end of october unless it's a sunny day with little wind, it was cold even on a sunny day in August and I saw a lot of "broken" families from dragging kids up and getting past halfway and then the kids complaining of being cold/tired/hungry/wet.

I know it doesn't seem right but maybe an idea to get the train up and walk down?

Those photos look fantastic. We think we'll take the pyg track up rather than the watkin path.
Will aim to get that lakeside spot:-)

whilst your in the area there's a little known white knuckle ride called 'the open topped bus from Llanberis to Betws-y-coed! even if the weather's not so good its a fab ride if a little scary! you get a great view of all the scenery

Set off good and early in the day because of the diminishing day light factor and take lots of snacks and treats for the young 'un...my daughter did it at that age and was absolutely fine, good boots certainly helped! It's rugged, beautiful and well, well worth it. Stick to the path and be prepared - weather and clothing wise - to be blown away by the beauty. You won't be short of anything to see and do here in north Wales and I hope you all have the best time!! Croeso i Cymru in advance!!

wen to snowdon today and it looked a bit misty. hope its better for you.

Just got back from a 5 day trip.
Camp site was brilliant. Even had a good enough weather window for a fire!!
Did the miners track up to snowdon, kids did it quite easily. Was cold, but we took advice and took plenty of layers.
Got back in the dark!, luckiliy had a good torch and some glowsticks.
Electric hydro station was awesome, also went to an old copper mine. Again really good.
Can't wait to go back.
Van was brilliant, llanberis pass in 4th gear!!
Spent a small fortune on fuel.
