axle stand pin

I've gone and lost one of the pins from my axle stand. Does this mean I now have to buy another pair or would it be safe to use something, like maybe a bolt or such like, in place of the missing pin?

Well two of my stands have been running with head studs for pins since oh the 80's I guess,

Thanks, I'll use a bolt then (assuming neither of you has had a van fall on your head).

Make sure it's a high tensile bolt as they don't sheer.

In truth, the sheer strength of even 10mm mild steel bar would far exceed the axles stands SWL (safe working load) but HT head bolts or similar seem to be the favourate replacement for lost pins.

I've got a 10" nail in my toolbox that does all sorts of clever things.
