Hi all

Just been shorting out the connectors on the LHS of the engine bay on my 2.1DJ as it keeps cutting out at when I come to a stop. by shorting out I mean unpluggin em from the matchbox ciruit board and joining em together.

It was also suggested I disconnect the green lead by the ingition coil with the yellow connector on it. But with this lead off it dies all the time.

Whilst doing this I saw a green and yellowish wire (or cream!) with a similar yellow plug on it but not connected to anything and no sign of its other part anywhere. It was dangling near the green lead I mentioned.

Anyone know what it is and what it should connect to please?

Equally annoying is the fact that unless I sit with the engine running for ages the temo never rise past the cold setting. I drove about 200miles the other day with the needle just 1mm above the cold setting. Possibly a dickie thermostat? it is new though as is the cooling system.

My cutting out issues are getting right on my nerves.

ok don't worry about the spare single plug that's for air con which you don't have
do say that it's a syncro
so on the front of the tstat housing is the single pin plug to gauge on dash, if you disconnect from sender and earth this lead the dash gauge will go to hot with ignition on but engine not running, if it doesn't then you've a wiring issue to gauge or voltage reg issue at dash
ok idle stabiliser is what stops it cutting out at idle, so it needs the switch to work to tell it to work, the valve needs to work, and if there's power steering then the valve on that needs to work too and then the idle control needs to work, if it does then a quick test of squeezing the bypass hose to the stabiliser valve will cause the engine to die, if it's not then you need to know what's not playing nicely
