Fridge dilemma

I have an '81 westphalia van. The fridge in it is outstanding. It cools great plugged in to mains, running on 12 V while driving, or running on gas. Keeps my beer really cold . I have been very pleased with it. Herein lies the problem. I am American and will be taking this campervan back to the states in about 3 years. I want to use the van there for camping. I figure I can rewire the mains for plugging items in, and get a new light for over the cooker from a US company. The Fridge seems like a little bit tougher issue. New 3 way fridges are way too expensive and I would be willing to bet that a used one will be a bit dodgy. Is there a way to convert the fridge to 110V mains power or should I just run it off of gas and 12 V and forget the mains? Thanks

The elements are pretty easy to replace - you could get hold of a 110v one and swap them over.

Get some one to fit a step-up transformer either in the fridge or near it.
It would have to be done by a professional, the size and power capabilities of the transformer must be correct.

Overkill!
Just put a 110v element in it as said.

That's why I suggest an "overkill" transformer that is relatively easy to source.

Good old US of A! (As they are the oddballs with 110v)
