Carb. upgrades ?

Can anyone help with this poser ? Up until recently I owned ( for 20 years ) a Type 2 1600 campervan , and many years ago replaced the stock Solex carb. with a twin choke Weber. It certainly improved things, more"oomph" uphills for instance and no loss of Mpg. I have now got a 1986 1.9 watercooled T25 which could also do with some more "oomph" ! However I have noticed a few people on the For Sale pages selling Webers and putting the Pierburgs back on. Is there no improvement to be gained with a Weber replacement ? Being a newcomer to the watercooled Vw I would appreciate your thoughts.............

I have the 1.6 CT engine and have done the twin weber conversion. There is an improvement in power and the mpg actually went up. However, they do have to be set up correctly. Any incorrect adjustments will result in you not being very happy with them ie. out of balance or incorrect mixture on one or more chokes.
I am however very happy with mine and won't be changing back!

The techy page has had a number of people on crying about their newly fitted and poorly tuned Weber carb when they've binned a perfectly good Pierburg in the futile search for this elusive power.
There's no substitute for cc's ... if you want more 'oomph' get a 2.1 WBX or something more exotic stuck in it.

or .. there is the expensive twin dellorto option..
lot's extra power.. at a cost of poor fuel economy, when the foot goes down hard
