smelling a little rich and a bit smokey

Morning guys and gals,

Just had to move the van for a delivery and noticed that it was smelling a bit rich and was a little smokey from the exhaust. Never noticed it before. Should say it's quite a damp old morning here and although she fired up fine, she did need a little coaxing to idle on her own. Any ideas?

'COLD START ENRICHMENT' and the fact that we are seeing the start of autumn so mornings are getting cooler which results in the choke/enrichment comng on more. The whole process is exagerated by visable condensation (again because of cooler air).

These old gals have very basic cold start mechanism's when compared to the near flawless startup and warm cycle of a new vehicle engine.
What does it tick over like when fully up to temperature? does it still look smokey/smell rich?

Martin

Thanks Martin, puts my mind at rest a great deal. It's fine when running and in fact didn't smoke at all when I started it 4 hours later.

Guess been a child of modern cars, I'm not used to these type of autumn starts.

Thanks again.
