how do i know if i have an early or a late tank. my van has bits of both early and later stuff on it. 1983, was a 2.1 petrol, now a 1.9 diesel. it has an early slider on it.
is there an obvious way of telling like the handles on the sliders ?

stick a magnet on the filler tube( pipe where you stick the fuel pump nozel in when you fill up)
under the arch , if a magnet sticks its early metal and usually rusty, if not its plastic /black and late
if the tanks out measure the hole , i dont have them now but can get the measurements. very obvious
