Ok, so I just bought this van:

In order to swap the engine into my Westy.

The engine hasn't been run for 10 years, but it starts and idles ok.

Question is, what should I replace/service to get it running sweetly in the Westy.

Here's what I've thought of so far:

Oil and filter (do I need to flush the engine or change strainers etc?)
Air filter
Alternator belt
Spark plugs
HT leads
Rotor arm
Dizzy cap
Sump plug and gasket
Fuel filter (and drain the old fuel from the tank, replace with new)

Is there anything else I should be looking at?

If anyone's interested, I'm likely to either be selling the panel van (which doesn't look too bad to honest, solid underneath ) or rebuilding the other Aircooled engine that I was going to put in the Westy, and sticking that in.

There was a product that i used for engines that had been standing called redex.The problem with engines standing and not turned over on a regular basis is cylinder bore and piston ring corrosion .Having an effect as to cause a ring to break or scoring as a possibility.I would advice soaking the pistons in the bores with this product for a good time before you attempt to turn the engine over.If this engine was mine i would remove the heads take out the pistons replace the rings and check bores .

Sounds like the engine's running already though...

Well, an hour at lunch time and 4 hours this evening and the panel van engine now resides in my Westy engine bay.

It aint fun on your own, I can tell you. No-one to swear at.

I'm gonna service it and run it up tomorrow, then its MOT time!
