HI,

Does anybody now the correct part no for the 1.9DG distributor?, mine does not seem to be the correct one.
The leads are in the wrong positions when leaving the cap. The timing is correct and the firing order is right.
I have removed the distributor from the engine in an atempt to turn the shaft 180 degrees but I am as of yet unable to remove the pin from the offset driving dog. Is the pin actually removable? as I will be able to put it in a press when I return to work on Friday, I dont really want to be forcing it if it is not ment to be removed.

Mine is 180 out it does not matter a jot.

The lead from the dizzy to No1 plug is far to tight. The lead is almost bent double at the plug end. I understand according to good old haynes that the correct position is for the rotor arm to point towards the timing mark. Even with turning the dizzy 180 degrees mine would not achieve this.

I think its listed in the VW Heritage catalogue with the proper part number.

wrong leadset then ?
any lead set for a T25 fits OK with dizzy in any position

025 905 205 AE or 025 905 205 Q or 025 905 205 J or 025 905 205 C, first one is the latest, last one the earliest

Thanks for that, looks like mine is the correct one 025 905 205 Q, the expense seems to be coming from the light of some new leads as kevtherev said. Still cheaper than a new dizzy.

Just a quickie if you wanted to get your dizzy position correct. You don't take the pin out of the bottom of the distributor etc. Instead, you take the gear out of the bottom of the dizzy shaft in the engine (possible fuel pump pin removal needed here to remove gear). Then you rotate the gear to the correct position as explained in Haynes, drop it in and it will slightly rotate to the correct position.

Not really, there's no pressure behind it.

Fuel pump off first, or the bugger WON'T come out (well it didn't on my 2.1 which was running a carb, not the injection system, when we bought it!!)

Took peoples advice and removed the fuel pump first, gasket was ok, managed to get the distributor shaft out by using my £2.99 TK Max telescopic magnet torch thingy. That twice ive used it, the other was for checking tonsilitis, is there no end to its uses. Anyway the dizzy is now sitting pretty and the engine seems to be running better than before.
