Hi people...Well I'm back on here(again) with another niggling issue..

Just changed my back brake shoes and also the secondary handbrake cables, have played with them like mad trying to get them set as close to the inside of the drum without binding. Only now when I use the brakes there is no pressure until I pump the brake pedal a couple more times. There aren't any leaks and the handbrake works well - any ideas??

you adjusting the cable or the actual brakes? you adjust the brakes at the hub then adjust the sable to take up the slack!

No, adjusting the brakes. Basically, all Ive done is change the shoes. I loosened the handbrake equaliser thing up, changed the cables and re tightened the equaliser finger tight. Should I leave the handbrake cables completely slack until I've set up the footbrake part first?

you should set up the shoes first, which will then allow set up of the hand brake cable

If your automatic adjusters in the drums are working ok then pulling up and down on the handbrake a dozen or so times should set the adjustment. Then you can adjust the cable length.

I am doing the same job,

for what it's worth I take the adjuster completely apart, then clean, and grease with a little copper grease in the threads and the pushers, the assembly then is finger spin into place, doing it from the front, so by putting on the drum to fit, you can get most of the adjustment done from the front.
Copper grease will help you do the adjusting more easily in the future.
