Aye up, like. <------scouse living in yorkshire. "pooh" happens

So, my wife and i have loved VW Campers for years and finally managed to be silly enough to buy one.
We know nothing 'at all' about engines or Campers in general. Sifting through manuals is now my hobby..

Any advice before our first road trip would be most welcome from anyone willing to give it.

Thus far:
Buy a Trolley Jack and 2ton side bar thingymajiggs in case we get a flat.
Get an awning.
Put petrol in it. <--- not the awning.

Would like to know:
Standard top speed to do on motorways as a noob driver?
Any critical spares/things you wouldn't leave home without?

With your jack, make sure you get a high reach one

Top speed on the M way is subject to how much fuel you want to use, 60 being the average most on here use.

Welcome to the club. An awning is not essential unless you have more than two people to house. Any small tent will do as a storage area if you want to empty the van out for a few days. However, I agree breakdown service membership and cold beers are essential. I recommend one of the breakdown services that provides cover for older vehicles overseas, if you are likely to do so. I left the AA years ago because they had a low vehicle age limit for cover overseas. I carry loads of bits and pieces but a decent tool kit, a spare throttle cable (as they are impossible to get hold of in an emergency) as well as a fan belt. You should already have reflective jackets on board for everybody and a spare bulb set and fuses. My motor is water cooled and I find 60mph is the most comfortable as you only really have another 10mph to deal with overtaking lorries (provided the road is flat). Happy camping.

First trip will be the viking volks fest next weekend so have got enough time to sort out the throttle cable, belt, bulbs etc. yay

try and live without an awning.. you'll only take stuff to fill it
We use a sun canopy now and the 5 berth frame tent awning is used for 2 week stays.

Conversion is an autosleeper as far as i can tell. Seem to be lots of different names for similar looking conversions.
Prev-owner fitted out with rocknroller, sink, hob, cupboards etc.
1.9 petrol engine

But it doesn't have an Autosleeper roof or interior, judging by the photos in your garage (not that it really matters though!)

Your's looks likely to be a home built camper and there is nothing similar to yours and that's a good thing

Yep dang usefull.... though I don't use it for the bog now, it's a second Aux batt box, tools, beer/wine/pimms overflow, shoes and gas lamps.... and a luxurious foot rest

I got a smaller bog to fit in the cupboard
I would make a smaller box for the bog if I did it again.
