white spirit?

is it ok to use white spirit instead of parrafin to clean vital parts, ive used it now but haynes says use paraffin.

Paraffin does seem to cut through grease and grime faster but you can also use petrol for that matter. Carbs clean up better with cellulose thinners as it removes all that brown gum residue you get. Otherwise, yes white spirits are fine as a general degreaser. Paraffin tends to leave more of an oily residue afterwards than white spirits.

White spirit is safe on most materials if that's what you're asking? Petrol is often more effective but can melt some plastics and protective paints. Thinners can be very effective as it leaves no residue but also effects certain plastics etc.

I used it to clean the auto gearbox pick up pan and it seems to have worked fine. Thanks for putting my mind to rest.
