Swapping a JX TD engine for a CY or JR
Posted: 10 Sep 2010, 09:25
Hi there,
First post! I have a 1.6td (JX) engine that is knackered in more ways than I care to imagine and am looking for a cost effective replacement (cheap cheap like a budgie!).
Cheapest seems to be in looking around for a donor car, i.e a audi 80, golf, jetta or passat etc with CY and JR engines of the same era which seem near enough the same spec. My hope/plan being I can lift out the engine with injectors, turbo etc still attached and I wondered if these will drop straight in, in place of the JX engine. Or, are there any modifications to, mountings, wiring, transmission, hoses etc required to to make them fit in my '87 westy multivan.
Or, Is it better to just wait for the right JX to come along, as I wont have the time to do it myself and my mate, who I'm paying, isn't a VW expert and charges by the hour!
Thanks very much for any advise you can give..
