Another coolant pipe question.

Hi All,

I've been reading as much as i can about replacing the front to rear coolant pipes, old rubber heater pipes are looking a bit suspect so will do these at these at the same time. As far as i can make out the heater pipes can be replaced with GP80 5/8 3.5meters for each pipe.

Now... the bit i'm not sure on is what i can replace the coolant pipes with, after reading all the threads i can, there seems to be a few options. Stainless would be the preferance but as with many others cost is a big factor. Second hand steels from scrappies or ebay, tricky to get ans seem quite expensive too.

Then theres the home made options of steel (but needs bending), silicon hose, reinforced hose, blue plastic waste pipe and a couple of others.

Main quesition is there an order of preferance for the home made options whats the pros and cons of them???

Have been asking around for some but no luck, only one set on e bay and they've had some chunks taken out of them.
Is the silicone hose a fair replacement as i can get hold of that really cheaply, just couldn't find out anywhere if it's up to the job and what spec it would need to be?

Thanks for suggestion.

iirc.there is only 1millibar of pressure going through these pipes.so if you can find some pipe of the same diameter.you should have no problems

Perfect, thanks for the reassurance. So is it just a matter of getting something that will deal with the heat and not collapse too much on the bends?
Also, is the internal diameter 32 and external 38mm? looking at some of the other posts folks have had dificulties in getting the new pipe through the chassis. I can't find anything in the haynes to confirm sizes but guessing there must be a standard size for fitting to the engine.

Thanks again for confirmation,

matt.

hi there do you have any comercial motor factors locally to you . i bought a couple of lenghs of hose with a bore size of 38 mm bore and bought some metal pipe of 38mm to. cut the metal pipe around 6ins long .it was a bit tight but it all fitted the total cost was around 40.0 in total .try to get trade . comercial motor factors are better because we use the hoses on fridges on the trailors and ridgids
