Hi,
in my desire to learn sommat new about the van every day, please could someone knowledgable explain about thermostat on a/c?

I know that the water cooled has one, and I think it supplies the reading for the temp guage??

But in an a/c? And how would I know if it was working???

thanks in advance

http://www.ratwell.com/technical/Thermostats.html This may help you understand the function of the thermostat and the cooling flaps .Original provided by cumbriankeith i may add which helped me sort out my cu 2ltr.

Thanks for that! Going to have a look for it next time I'm underneath the van....

I think it needs to be wiki'd please!!

edited to add: Are our cu engines the same as the bay engines, then? The web site talks about 72-79 type 4 engines? I thought they were CJ and a little bit different? I will find this thermostat on the same place as in the photo on the article?

thanks

I think the diffrences between the type 4 cj / cu are solid and hydro cam followers and variation in cubic capacity.

There's a few other diffs - not sure about CCs - but basically same engine - I think some late CJs were hydraulic lifters and the fan/alternator/heat exs are slightly different - probably other stuff too. But the stat and flaps are the same - Emma, you won't find the flaps looking underneath - they're buried under the tinware/in the fanhousing - look at the Ratwell pics really closely. The stat should be barely visible, too - provided you have the right bits of tin in place.
