Hi, hope someone can help me, I've got a 1984 1.9L petrol (DG engine code) with a 4 speed gearbox. I need to get a 5 speed gearbox and people keep telling me I have to be careful not to get the wrong one. Can anyone give me some good information or tell me the type I need?

If you need to get a 5 speed you will need the linkage to go with it.
Some info. http://www.brick-yard.co.uk/VehicleSpec ... fo/gbx.htm
Hope this helps.

don't waste your time unless you've changed to a more powerful engine it is geared correctly and you don't get an overdrive fifth unless you have one built with an extra long gear, but again you'd need the guts to pull it; wbx revs green zone is 2-4k, and can rev to 5k; sitting at 3300 all day long, just don't expect a 20 plus year old van to drive like a modern car
imho of course

Aidan is right. I had this very discussion with him a year ago and he talked me through what was involved in making a more useful fifth. You'll gain absolutely nothing from changing from 4 speed to 5 unless you have another grand or so to rebuild it and fit a custom gear.
