diesel tank difference

just dropped my tank to replace it with one i refurbed earlier only to find the filler hole on the one i dropped is much larger than my refurbed one !!, wots that all about ?

OH well looks like ive got another tank to rub down and paint then as ive only got the large metal filler pipe, but i guess i will be able to fill up quicker like them F1 drivers !!! ,Red Westie wrote:As far as I am aware the fact that yours is diesel makes no difference to the actual tank, just that there were changes and differences over the production years (mainly the change from a metal filler neck to a plastic one)
Early (large metal filler neck, 68mm? I think) ....Late smaller plastic filler neck (48mm ? ) then there is 'injection' (smaller plastic filler but with built in swirl pot and larger petrol feed outlet) and of course the syncro's which are different again.
