Hi peeps it's Vanfest time so my leisure battery decides to fail me. Well 2 cells are duff so time to buy a new one. Can any one recommend a good replacement. 85 ah is fine and fits nicely under my rock and roll bed. Only run at most a couple of lights, poss a portable dvd player and that's a rarity. are sealed units any good. the one i have you have to top up with de ionised water just like the old days. managed to ruin one pair of jeans getting acid on them.

might as well get a normal starter for that sort of usage.. Code 096 is the biggest that fits. (75 a/h)

if its under the rock and roll bed and you dont really use it get a good diesel one should hold up ok ?

Thanks chaps. it basically runs 2-3 lights and is rigged to a relay to charge it. The lights are wired with fuses to the battery and there's 1 cigar socket attached as well.

More than happy to get a normal starter battery as they are cheaper and i can use it if the main ever went flat, though the relay should stop that. would it be ok to still use the split charge to recharge if i do replace with a normal battery?

Yes. I ran like that for over two years before a leisure came my way. For what you use it for, a meaty starter battery should be perfect.

I bought the Alpha 80AH battery recommended in the thread here. Fits neatly under the passenger seat and gives plenty of flexibility if you end up doing any longer trips:
