Non-standard ignition circuit.

Hi, prompted by a few recent posts about timing an air-cooled engine I decided it was time I reset my points and checked my timing. I should say I've had my van over 18 months and it has always run pretty well. Happy at 65 mph all day (apart from hills ), turns in 16-20 mpg depending on the type of trip. Every 1000 or so miles it develops a bit of a misfire but re-gapping the points always fixes this straight away.

Anyway, after reading the haynes manual procedure I realised my van doesn't have a "standard" ignition set-up. My dizzie doesn't have a vacuum advance? I can't see any part numbers on the dizzie to tell me what it is? Any ideas?

The idle stabilizer and ignition amplifier have never been connected. In fact I can't see any "loose" plugs that would have connected to them? Unless there in the black box behind the HT coil?

So what should I do? Put the engine bay cover back on and pretend I never noticed or try to track down the "right" parts?

Looks like someone has added the old points and condenser from an old VW, Maybe a 009 Dizzy!

Mine has the same set up changed it all for eletronic set up.

Looks like you have most of the stuff there!!

Imagine a world where you never had that problem or had to do that.
It's called electronic ignition VW decided it was perfect for them years ago and fitted them to the then new T25 in 1979. With vacuum advance working with precise sparks it made use of all the power with properly timed ignition.

if your happy with regapping every month then leave it..

them leads look a bit past it BTW

Them leads are the best bit ! Silicone with carbon cores robbed off my Fiat X19 before I gave her away. Admittedly they are a bit dirty
