air cooled cooling duct flaps

I'm confused as to the correct positioning of my cooling flaps. I think my thermostat is knackered. The natural position of the flaps appears to be closed. Should I leave as is or should the flaps be fixed so they are permanently open? To my mind they should be fixed open to allow the cool air generated from the crank fan to pass over the heads. Is my thinking correct?
Thank you

Hello,

Wind your flaps fully open.

It is probable that your thermostat no longer works.

A new one is £ lots.

Unless you are starting in the dead of winter, adopt the cool cruising attitude of the 70's. start the engine, let it turn 2 mins. switch off let warm through 5 mins , restart cruise, tranquille. Voila

Cordialement,

Thank you for the advice. I have checked to make sure they are in the "failsafe" open position and will get a type 2 thermostat and modify it to get the flaps workong correctly
