Hey.
Looking at buying a petrol van, does anyone know a good heating system? I know diesel vans can use small fuel heaters, any ideas for petrols vans? (im new to vans, first one!

The viable options are an Eberspacher running from a small diesel tank or Propex running on gas from a cylinder or an underfloor leisure tank.

cheers ian! Been looking on ebay and such like for the small diesel heaters, seem very expensive. around £1000. does anyone know where to get one cheaper?

They are pricey and, unless you're going to do a lot of wild camping in the winter, probably not worth it. If you can get to a site with EHU, something like a little oil-filled radiator would take the chill off. I'm thinking of getting a little generator which would be a cheaper and more versatile option. I don't do much camping in the winter, wild or otherwise, so can't really justify spending the money on one of them fancy eber-thingies but I suppose it suits some.

You never need worry about those damp mornings and evenings in spring/autumn and can attend all those winter shows and camps in comfort (several of us had Ebers on at RTTH ... I'll bet more wished they could have done). Even in summer these days it can be unpleasantly cold and wet of a morning.

I don't have a water tank (I got rid of it and use a small water container which fits under my sink) and if I was fitting out my van from scratch I'd consider a free standing hob and grill which would give me the option of cooking outside too. Horses for courses and all that.

There is nothing more satisfying than rolling over in bed in the house on a frosty morning and switching on my Webasto with the remote and know that the van will be defrosted by the time I go out to it.

Or, if you are not wild camping and you have electic hook up you could plug in an electric heater. I bought one from JK for £15. It has a cut out switch in case it falls over etc. It was more than sufficient to heat my pop top in late October in Belgium (nippy).

usualy chime in at £250.

I just use a cheap little fan heater from Argos - I think it cost me less than a tenner. I should really get round to fixing the Eber, though...

our old westy had a petrol webasto heater so petrol ones are available!!
