pinto 2.0 conversion

not thinking of this right now, but maybe the coming year

how complicated is a conversion from a 1.9 dg to one of these more modern engines?
expense? (does it need a specialist?)
swapping the lpg kit?

the pinto was designed in the 60's,the dg is the modern engine.
you need to raise the engine bay to get clearence on the engine,so depends on your bed arrangement.

i had just heard that the pinto was a good alternative to the dg 1.9 in terms of expense and reliability
are there any petrols that go in without significant hassle?

You thought about a 1.8 or 2.0 injection motor out of a Golf/Passat/Toledo etc etc?

Bolts right up on diesel mounting kit and diesel bellhousing. Saves all of this adaptor plate nonsense.

thanks DH, its a thing just in the pipeline (a way off yet!)
so would eg. a passat 2.0 engine be a relatively easy job? or is having injection asking for problems?
would like to remain on petrol and transfer my lpg kit (im not sure how that works either)

A Passat 2.0 would be OK, the only thing about later injection is you have things like fault codes and limp home modes to "kcoc" about with things.

Digifant management off a Golf2 1.8 would be a good solution - self contained wiring and simple management. With a bit of tweaking you shold be able to run it on a 2.0 lump too, specifically for more torque.

Injection is asking for a bit of wiring but then you get rather better fuel economy.

Dunno about LPG on an I4 engine..... it's bound to work though.....

i used a 1.8 golf gti (pb code) engine in my bus with all original digifant loom from golf went well the loom for the golf engine is a seperate loom with a 4 pin feed plug or 2x 2pin plugs so plugs in to the engine then needs a earth & ignition feed to run bolts up to the diesel bellhousing and engine mounts no mods i used a 2.1 injection tank with larger 12mm outlet and swirl pot made new fuel lines from 8mm kunifer pipe of the roll just need to get a custom downpipe from manifold to exhaust rear box i also used a 2.0 inlet manifold with injector bosses welded up so i didnt have to modify the left chassis leg
