We are heading to cornwall for a few days. already booked two nights in padstow for beer, chips, ice cream, pasties and cycling and we are looking for somwhere else that can offer a village with pub as well as some nice coastal walking.
Not bothered about beaches, free camping, or surfing
Any campsite ideas ideas?

Stayed
Here a couple of times. Decent pub with reasonable food very close, not too long a walk down to a beach with another pub that does a great carvery.
Not a huge place, St Blazey Gate, but it's also (allegedly) the nearest site to the Eden Project if you fancy it - you get in a bit cheaper too if you go on a bike or walk. We used it to visit some of the Eden Sessions a few years ago.

What about Tristram campsite at Polzeath ? Its not the cheapest but there are 3 good pubs in walking distance, its on the Coastal path and also not too far from Padstow. Phil

I have seen a site that is fery close to Polperro. A plan would be to get the bus to Looe and walking back along the coast
Can't find any reviews of the site though

Hope you have a good time ..
Another for Polzeath/Rock area is Higher Penmayne (NOT- Tremayne Farm as I posted earlier). its very near the Sharps brewery (hic)
We just got back after spending 10 days there - Lovely - saw Nigella at the local Spar - I felt like it was an episode of Stella Street !
Also - saw a T25 at the Doom Bar PH with an 80-90 club sticker
have previously stayed at Valley site opp beach at Polzeath
Short drive to Polzeath - the site is iadj to Rock - clean - quiet - not overcrowded and v reasonable rates.
Google for the Higher Penmayne web site for details....

Apart from the large river estuary in the way, of course. If you want to camp near Padstow, I'd pick somewhere on the same side of the water...

We are already booked into Dennis Cove. We went last year and it was in an ideal location being an easy and flat 10 minute traffic free stroll into Padstow as well as being on the Camel cycle trail

Be interested to hear how Denis Cove is now, we stayed there when we got back to the UK in 2008 and were severely disappointed; lack of facilites, price, staff etc etc. I'd stayed there back in the mid 80's and it was wonderful so I was really looking forward to it and the location is superb. We're back in Cornwall at the end of the month for a couple of weeks and it would be great to think it was worth a visit again.
It had the feel of somewhere that had been let go. The ethos of the site on our last visit seemed to be "People will come and stay because it's Padstow, why should we offer them anything decent? Just charge them a lot of money, don't provide electric even though it's been pre-booked and paid for, it doesn't matter if they don't come back there's plenty of others". We booked 3 nights and stayed for 2, couldn't find anyone to sort out the problems or discuss them with so just upped and left (out of pocket).
Hopefully that's changed now, I guess it must have done or you wouldn't be going back

Can't say it can have changed much in the a year since you went in 2008. Still get's decent reviews

It's about £16 a night which isn't cheap and the facilities and price were is worse some of the other sites I have been to in the Dales, Lakes, Pembrookshire, shell island, northumberland etc etc. The missus is looking forward to going back (and she usually prefers to try different places). And you know how the ladies are more prone to not being entirely satisfied when facilities are not up to scratch
We went to a site in the Dales over the bank holiday which was £10 a night but had just 2 single toilets, two showers and no proper washing facilites other than two micro sinks in the toilets. So if anyone was in there you had to brush your teeth over the two washing up sinks. Setting was lovely though as was the village of Muker nearby.
Dennis Cove isn't exactly a picturesque site (top tent field has views) but they fitted us in when we turned up last year on spec even though the reception was closed. There aren't many hookups I agree but I very rarely bother with hook-ups unless it's late autumn early spring. It's more the convenient location to Padstow I like. No need to move the van. Staggering distance from the pub, chippys all around, amazing pasty shop, ice cream, coastal walks and cycling on the camel trail all on the doorstep.
It's purely somwhere to sleep as we'll be out all day walking, cycling, drinking and troffing
Nothing beats Heathy Roods in the Peak District. Only £3pp a night. Beautiful setting, two bogs, a sink, a shower and washing up facilities. No hot water other than the shower but a pub nearby and the manifold valley. Bootiful

As a local I'd say Henry's takes some beating but its still very busy even though the schools are back.
I'd try Treen (for the best beach in Cornwall if you don't want to surf) and Trevedra - near Sennen (for the best beach if you do want to surf and the best sunsets).

Would have to agree with PetenAli...although Treen used to be much better in THE late 70's and early 80's when it was truely a farmers field with a half dozen WC's and sinks in an old farm building - this was my childhood summer retreat from the age of 1 to 16. I lived on the site for 8 weeks as a student working in the Logan (one of the best local pubs around) and as a water sports instructor for Freetime near Sennen. However, saying that the family have spent a fair bit on the site and it is a top notch...no bookings, turn up and pitch (if there is space which there usually is).
And is is arguably the best neach in the world with nothing that compares, as long as you don't mind cool water. Oh, and it does get some serious surf, if you're there at the right time of year and withthe rigth swell and you don't get the crowds of Sennen (if you are interested). Sharks, seals, fish all to be seen if you fancy some snorkelling.

Henry's is my favourite campsite ever. We go every easter without fail and Ron and Jo are just lovely. (Jo has a T25 now as well). Really nice pubs in the village and the ramble down to the beach is ace. Our clutch went last year and we had to atay an extra night to wait for a tow home, not even slightly gutted, was lovely.
Have a great time
