holes in breather tank

Just had my fuel breather tanks out to clean behind them and I've noticed that there are several small holes, about 5mm in diameter, drilled into the top. Is this normal? or would it be a good idea to cover them over?

They shouldn't be there, put it that way! There is usually one outlet (90 degree bend) with a pipe running from it down somewhere near the front of the tank. Won't do any harm unless you start to get dirt/water in there, then you could have a problem when it gets into the tank.

Might find something used to be fixed to the floor above!

hrm - interesting! I'll cover them up at the next opportunity.
I did find that one of the plastic pipes back to the tank was blocked, so its definitely not doing any good..
